Octophant backstory

our sour ipa

We first brewed Octophant back in 2016 with the concept of brewing a New England IPA but heightening the juicy flavors to new levels using a sour beer as the base. Octophant used to be called (Tentacular Pachyderm) which was impossible for people to say so we shortened it to Octophant which was a good change.

Trial and victory

Through the years, I tried many different hop blends to get our Sour New England IPA just right! The OG was a blend of Mandarina Bavaria, Citra and Simcoe. We may bring that one back someday and even name it Tentacular Pachyderm as a tribute to our humble beginnings as a special release beer. We also brewed a batch using Jarrylo, Belma and Nelson Sauvin. In the end I went with a blend of Mosaic and Sabro which are very popular hops used in many IPAs here in New England.

Mosaic has always been a fan favorite in all 5 breweries I have worked for. The hop gives the beer its Mango, Pineapple, Blueberry with a touch of hoppy dankness. Sabro has become my new favorite, Its a fairly new hop still but is just as fantastic as Mosaic. Sabro gives our Octophant flavors of Coconut, Key Lime and Grapefruit. All these hop flavors create a beer that tastes like we put fruit in it BUT its just a method of finding the right fruity hops combined with a super acidic beer!

Additional Information

Having a bachelors in digital media, I already had a keenness to bright vivid colors which was the opposite of what they would teach you in school. I think neon colors are vital to our company and gives us an edge to being noticed by a new fan. The first 3 labels are kinda my initial ideas for the artwork. I reached out to a label artist who had designed some of my favorite can art labels around
